Taghi Mokhtar is a multifaceted storyteller whose career spans decades across literature, cinema, and journalism. Born in 1946 in Iran, he embarked on his creative journey as a writer, screenwriter, playwright, journalist, art and literary critic, actor, and director. His passion for storytelling began in his teenage years when he entered the realms of press and cinema, shaping his voice in both literary and visual arts.

At the age of 31, Mokhtar immigrated to the United States, where he became a citizen and continued to expand his artistic influence. His work in journalism has been extensive, contributing to numerous newspapers and magazines in Iran, including serving as the editor of Film and Setareh Cinema magazines. He also curated daily specials for the Tehran Children and Young Adults Film Festival, as well as publications such as DelArash and Iranians. His media presence extended into television as the producer and anchor of the cable TV show Iran Namaa in the United States.

Beyond his work in journalism, Mokhtar has left an indelible mark on the world of cinema and theater. As an actor, he has starred in 18 films, in addition to writing and directing two movies in Iran. His theatrical journey continued in the United States, where he both acted in and directed multiple plays, including Ariel Dorfman’s Death and the Maiden.

A prolific writer, Mokhtar has penned hundreds of critical and analytical articles on politics, art, literature, cinema, and theater, alongside an impressive collection of books, including novels, short stories, essays, screenplays, and plays. His latest literary achievement, Open Your Arms, originally crafted as a screenplay, has been reimagined as a novel—marking his first English-language work.

With a career deeply rooted in storytelling across multiple mediums, Taghi Mokhtar continues to explore the power of narrative, bridging cultures and perspectives through his art.
